Commercial Bank of California (CBC) is proud to support the Sikhlens Foundation in their efforts to create awareness of the Sikh culture across the world through media and arts. For more than 25 years, the Sikhlens Foundation has focused on telling the story of the culture through art, heritage calendars, lectures and interfaith outreach programs. In 2002Sikhlens launched a film festival to increase the awareness of the Sikh culture among mainstream Americans.
For the last seven years the foundation has collaborated extensively with Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts to create a program than enabled film students to travel abroad to immerse themselves into the Sikh culture and tell the story of the people and their lives. The program spans across multiple semesters: one for all pre-production and filming abroad, and a second for post-production and editing of the film at Chapman’s studios.
Sikhlens has also partnered with the university to curate various events and experiences to enrich the lives of both students and the community. Opportunities include a travel course during the winter break interterm that takes students to India to learn about the culture and heritage, a series of Sikh music and dance performances at the new Musco Center for the Arts, a hosted dinner for the 700+ international students studying at Chapman, and a 120-day exhibition of artifacts and Sikh literature displayed at Chapman’s Leatherby Libraries.
CBC’s sponsorship allows the Sikhlens Foundation to continue these various types of programming to support their mission of spreading cultural diversity and nurturing students to become global citizens.
